MARGARET POPE
GALLERY EXHIBITION
"We are so grateful to have had Margaret Pope as our Spring/Summer Visiting Artist at The Common Well. Her residency was made possible through a generous gift from J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation and allowed Pope to work freely in a private studio at The Common Well experimenting, exploring and creating new installations and sculptures for this exhibition. Her new constructions are heavy, whimsical and full of tension. The works include found, new and altered building materials; three tons of sand; 600 pounds of poured, cast concrete; and an enormous drawing in space made of crispy, yellow rebar.
Pope’s artistic practice is deeply influenced by her environment, particularly the dynamics between urban and rural spaces. Her work often begins with a specific object, which she then transforms through assemblage, deconstruction, and manipulation. As multi-media interdisciplinary artist, Pope works to place found and reconstructed objects in space to reconsider their function, place, and active role in shaping human experience.
Born and raised in McCall, Idaho, Pope attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, where she received a BA in Political Science and Visual Art. She then returned to Idaho to pursue an MFA at Boise State University, graduating in 2021. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Professor at the College of Idaho." - https://thecommonwellboise.com/
